As part of Iona’s commitment to you (Our Partner) we feel that it is important that you get the best start to making a success of your Business by training you and your team to be the best they can be.
Before you start, we ensure that you are fully prepared. Not just the ‘how to do this’ training in your pub, but also business help and advice that lets your concentrate on your development plans and understand the financials in your business. Our training doesn’t stop there. We have further development courses for you and your team, many of which are delivered online so they can be taken at a time that suits you.

TENNENT’S TRAINING ACADEMY
Tennent’s Training Academy is the preferred supplier for training for the IONA Pub Partnership. We work really closely together and are able to offer all IONA tenants a 20% discount off all trade courses.
Most of the courses are held in the Tennent’s Training Academy in the Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow however we run a number of courses in throughout Scotland including Personal Licence, Basic Food Hygiene, Door Supervisor SIA and First Aid.

Step 3 :
UNDERSTAND YOUR LEASE OPTIONS
Our agreements are jargon free, and designed to make this part of the process as easy as possible for you. We do understand however, that one size doesn’t always fit all, and for that reason, we can always tailor our terms to ensure the potential of each property (and tenant) is maximised.
PLATFORM AGREEMENT
Our entry level agreement for people who are potentially new to the trade or for those who have trade experience and have yet to run their own business. With flexibility on length of agreement, notice periods on either side and lower initial setup fees this agreement is only available in certain units.
- 3yr agreement
- Either party can end the agreement with 3 month notice
- Security deposit of £3000
- Obligation to buy all draught & packaged beers, lagers, ciders & PPS
- Obligation to buy all other drinks products through our nominated supplier
- Gaming machines will be split on a 50/50 basis
- We will take responsibility for all external repairs
- You will be responsible for all internal repairs and maintenance
- You will purchase the fixtures and fittings, we may help with a payment plan in some instances
- Legal fees for change of Designated Premises Manager
- Obligation to attend our mandatory three day training course
RETAILER AGREEMENT
This agreement is for experienced operators who are looking for a longer term option, with no notice periods on either side, no obligation to purchase wines, spirits and soft drinks and an option to assign after a qualifying period of time.
- 5 year renewable agreement (extendable in multiples of 5 years with a maximum of 20 years)
- Assignable after the first year
- RPI (Retail Price Index) linked rent
- Security deposit equal to one quarter of rent is required (minimum of £6000)
- Obligation to buy all draught & packaged beers, lagers, ciders & PPS
- Opportunity to purchase non tied products via our group pricing structure
- Gaming machines will be split on a 50/50 basis
- Full FRI (fully repairing and insuring) agreement.
- You will purchase the fixtures and fittings, we may help with a payment plan in some instances
- You are responsible for paying all legal fees
- Obligation to attend our mandatory training course
Step 4 :
LET’S TALK DETAILS
A chance for you to have some face to face time with one of our Business Development Managers, in order to really understand what you are looking for and how we can give you that. At this stage we can talk about specific sites that are of interest, as well as detailing more about our lease agreements and the support available.
Step 5 :
A BIT OF PAPERWORK
Taking on a lease can be highly rewarding, but it requires hard work, long hours, and a real passion and commitment to our shared vision. The documents and tools below will help you craft your business plan, and provide a backbone for your next meeting with your Business Development Manager. Step 6 :
SHAKE ON IT
Your Business Development Manager will meet to review your literature with you, and may bring additional support to agree next steps, ingoing costs and agree timescales. Shortly after, you can expect to pick up your keys, and unlock your future.
